The term 'Shaman' is derived from the name the native tribes of Siberia use for their healers and spiritual workers. It is used now as an umbrella term for Native, tribal healers, medicine people and spirit workers the world over. Shamanic healing is a body of healing techniques and practices derived from the methods of these native healers. Many of these methods are thought to have been used in much the same form for thousands of years. There are certain healing techniques which are common to Shamen all over the world which have come to be known as 'Core Shamanism.' One of the best known of these is 'Soul Retrieval.' When we experience trauma we tend to disconnect from the experience because it is painful. This is very effective emotional survival mechanism but it also means that we leave energy in that time and place. We therefore have less energy day to day and give the event or trauma a battery of energy to perpetuate itself in our lives. This is why a single traumatic event can continue to affect us for years afterwards. Through Soul Retrieval we can bring back this energy, thus giving us more energy day to day and ending the events' effect on our lives. The body of Shamanic work is extensive and includes extraction of harmful energy from the energy body, and the Shaman as conductor of souls. We also use conscious dreaming to effect change on a subtle level.
